and then some visiting went on while lunch was served.

....and a bit more!

Lunch time!! Pasta with Creamy Sun-Dried Tomato Sauce,
chicken or turkey, green salad and rolls.
The delecious lunch was catered by
Lombardi's Gourmet Deli & BBQ.
Thank you to Scott & Lee for a yummy meal.

Mini Cheesecakes and chocolate "cow pies" from Sue McIsaac.

And then the models. Each volunteer Sacks lady chose an outfit or two
from the store and modeled for us. Following the show, Dairy Women & friends
had the opportunity to shop at the mini Sacks shop for fashions and accessories.
A familiar face to Dairy Women, Renata from the Hermann Sons Hall!

District #3 Dairy Princess Emilie Strand was also a model!
Cute outfit & bag, Emilie.

Again, Emilie all dressed up.
North Bay Dairy Women members and friends attending donated over $600 to Hospice during the luncheon. Thank you, ladies, for your generosity.
Many also contributed by stocking up their closets with the finds at the mini Sacks store!!
A special thank you to NBDW member Nancy Grossi for taking the beautiful photos. Check out her blog http://thewifeofadairyman.blogspot.com/

Petaluma Youth Ag Day, September 24, 2010

In September the Dairy Women again participated in Petaluma Youth Day.
Petaluma Youth Ag Day is co-hosted by the Agri-Business Committee of Petaluma Area Chamber of Commerce and the Sonoma Marin Fair.
Here the students arrive at our cheese table for a sample of local cheese. We purchased and handed out 30 pounds of cheese cubes (Cheddar and Colby-Jack) from Petaluma Creamery.
He's looking like a happy taster!

President Audrey Wheeler & Susan Bianchi add picks to the cheese cubes.

Susan & Renee Renati showing off their skills.

Renee, Chris Camozzi & Jessica McIsaac man the sample table.

The groups were smaller this year....but that was because they added one more "herd" to the group movement. It worked very well for crowd control.
Petaluma FFA students acted as "Herd Leaders". They always do a great job.

Kim Jones gives a dairy presentation to a full grand stand.
Her assistant, Vic Pozzi, is always a willing and smiling helper.

Kim brought this holstein over to the fence for the pre-schoolers to meet.
Kim does an awesome job talking to the students and she smiles the whole time.

Vic Pozzi, Kim Jones, Tim Tesconi and Ralph Sartori talk about the days activities (or something?!). All assisted in the days events, putting out good information about the local ag community and the products we produce.

Santa Rosa Jr. College Ag Ambassadors were on the job manning a booth near ours.
The students could play in a trough full of whole corn at the SRJC booth.

Connie & Jackie Jones share a smile and a chicken!
Wish I would have asked "which came first, the chicken or the egg"?
I know these two would have had the answer for me.

"Clo" was on duty and showed off her Crown Trophy.
Below, 4-Hers staff the bunny petting table, always a hit with the students.
These 4-Hers do a nice job handling and sharing their rabbits.
A "cowboy" takes a ride on a bronc!

Valley Vista Elementary School 1st Place poster.
Grant School 1st Place mural.

Snack Station with S-M Fair manager Pat Conklin on duty (left, purple shirt & dark glasses).
Students are given regular or chocolate milk, mini carrots & Barbara's cookies.
During this time the students sit in the stands or on the lawn and are given a presentation.
This year they got to watch sheep being sheared.
A few minutes rest and they are back to their touring.
2010 Petaluma Youth Ag day helpers: Renee Renati, Sue McIsaac, President Audrey Wheeler, Susan Bianchi, Chris Camozzi and seated Jessica McIsaac.
Thank you ladies for your help.

Also, thank you to the Sonoma Marin Fair and PACC Agri-Business Committee. This is an outstanding example of agriculture partners teaming up to educate our youngsters.
Some of those involved in the planning & production of the event include North Bay Dairy Women members Becky Chapman (Agri-Bus. Committee Chair), Ruth McClure, Edie Cheda and Margaret Gambonini. Others helping from the committee are John Martin, Pat Conklin, Mike Tomasini, Jay Palm and Herm Benedetti (with apologies to any I have missed).

September General Meeting

The September 7 General Meeting was held at City Limits in Petaluma. We had a very little group, but a good time & good meeting.

August General Meeting

North Bay Dairy Women General Meeting - Star Restaurant, Cotati
August 3, 2010
Dairy Princess Emilie Strand & 1st Alt. Dairy Princess Regina Camozzi
joined us for the meeting and lunch.
Secretary Susan Bianchi & President Audrey Wheeler
handling business duties.
Dairy Princess Emilie & Alternate Regina
They each spoke about their activities since taking on their princess jobs. Thank you both for taking the time to be with us. We all enjoyed your visit.

Sonoma County Fair Dairy Education

North Bay Dairy Women again manned the Sonoma County Fair Dairy Education Booth for 8 days during the fair. Susan Bianchi & Sue McIsaac arranged speakers and scheduling to provide the visitors to the milk barn with information and a place to have their questions answered about the local dairy industry.
This has been a great way to both promote our wonderful milk products and to educate and inform the consumer public about the benefits of dairy and give them a "local face" of their milk products. This year we had moderate interest at the program.

Feed sample table is a hit with the kids when they discover they can touch all the feeds.
Jolynn McClelland & Art Lafranchi shared a turn at the speaker position. They were a good combination, both knowledgeable and public friendly.
We also provide yogurt and cheese "prizes" for various contests about the dairy barn, the most popular being "how much milk will that cow give?"

"Look....a baby calf!!"
Thank you to Nikki Cheda & Jessica Botelho for sharing their calves for the hutch display.

Kim Jones talks about the milking procedures in the barn.

Maria Camozzi, with one of her cows, leaves the milk barn.

Bob McClure and daughter Michelle speak and answer questions. Bob has been a speaker at this program for several years and does a great job. He has a fun sense of humor!

Watching, questioning and listening....

and petting a calf, a big hit with young & old.

Chris Camozzi & Monique Moretti help with the calf and
Earl & Dot Holtz are manning the feed sample table.

Thank you to Wine Country Ranch Equipment & Bob Giannecchini
for providing the calf hutch.
Also participating as speakers were: George & Margaret Gambonini, Ralph Sartori, John Martin, Leslie Corp, Earl Holtz, Samantha Spaletta, Jen Beretta, Mandy Brazil and Dayna Ghirardelli, Dairy Princess Emilie Strand. Thank you to all of them for their time & talent.
We also appreciate the help of milk barn crew Rachael Cheda & Andy Cheda.
And, thank you to all the North Bay Dairy Women who staffed the table.

Sonoma County Fair Feature Booth

It's a winner! 1st Place Feature Booth at Sonoma County Fair.

June "Dairy Baby"

On June 1st Dairy Princess Emilie Strand (with help from NBDW member Cindy Bordessa) presented a basket of "dairy" delights to the first baby born at Petaluma Valley Hospital in June "Dairy Month". This year the Dairy Baby was a darling baby girl, Lexus. She weighed in at 8 lbs., 9 oz. and her mom and grandmom were thrilled to receive the special gift basket. Baby Lexus is the great-baby of Sam Nissen, a long time Petaluma rancher.
Dairy Princess Emilie also presented the nurses with a basket of dairy treats. Thank you to Emilie, Cindy and Dairy Baby Lexus!
