Sonoma County Fair Dairy Education

North Bay Dairy Women again manned the Sonoma County Fair Dairy Education Booth for 8 days during the fair. Susan Bianchi & Sue McIsaac arranged speakers and scheduling to provide the visitors to the milk barn with information and a place to have their questions answered about the local dairy industry.
This has been a great way to both promote our wonderful milk products and to educate and inform the consumer public about the benefits of dairy and give them a "local face" of their milk products. This year we had moderate interest at the program.

Feed sample table is a hit with the kids when they discover they can touch all the feeds.
Jolynn McClelland & Art Lafranchi shared a turn at the speaker position. They were a good combination, both knowledgeable and public friendly.
We also provide yogurt and cheese "prizes" for various contests about the dairy barn, the most popular being "how much milk will that cow give?"

North Bay Dairy Women 2010 Cookbook

The cookbook is in for print and we expect to have it in hand by mid-December. Thank you to all the ladies (and their friends) who submitted recipes. There are 349 delicious items! Many main dishes and desserts, but overall a great mix of wonderful specialties!

June "Dairy Baby"

On June 1st Dairy Princess Emilie Strand (with help from NBDW member Cindy Bordessa) presented a basket of "dairy" delights to the first baby born at Petaluma Valley Hospital in June "Dairy Month". This year the Dairy Baby was a darling baby girl, Lexus. She weighed in at 8 lbs., 9 oz. and her mom and grandmom were thrilled to receive the special gift basket. Baby Lexus is the great-baby of Sam Nissen, a long time Petaluma rancher.
Dairy Princess Emilie also presented the nurses with a basket of dairy treats. Thank you to Emilie, Cindy and Dairy Baby Lexus!

Judy puts in more than we know about and under her supervision we host the state's largest and best Dairy Princess contest. Ralph has been an outstanding emcee for the event, knowledgeable about our dairy industry and balancing serious and fun during his interviews.

Cloverdale Ag Day

On Friday, May 7 NBDW worker ladies went to

Cloverdale Ag Day.

Joyce Leveroni, Audrey Wheeler, Dairy Princess Emilie Strand,

1st Alt. Dairy Princess Regina Camozzi & Holly Camozzi all

Students are asked various trivia questions related to dairy and nutrition;

prizes included cow banks, pencils & coloring books in "Real California Milk" bags.

June "Dairy Baby"

Each year North Bay Dairy Women award a gift basket stuffed full of dairy products, dairy related gifts & baby items to the first baby born in June at Petaluma Valley Hospital.
Cindy Bordessa is coordinating the job and will assist Dairy Princess Emilie Strand in presenting the gift to the new baby & his or her parents. Also, a basket will be given to the nurses at the hospital for their help in making this a fun event.
If you have an item(s) you would like to donate to the June "Dairy Baby" basket, it may be dropped off at John's Dairy Supply through Saturday, May 29. If you have a question, give Cindy a call at (707)792-2222.

2010 Installation of Officers & Board

At our March meeting at Cattlemen's in Petaluma, the 2010-11 Officers & Board were installed.
Handling the installation duties was Mary Zimmerman. Mary has served for several years as a board member and active NBDW worker. She has retired from the board and was kind enough to conduct installation for us.
New Officers are:
President Audrey Wheeler, 1st Vice President Judy Buttke, Second Vice President Monique Moretti, Recording Secretary Susan Bianchi, Treasurer Sue McIsaac, Corresponding Secretary Cindy Bordessa; Board Members are Annette Grossi, Kim Jones, Lorrie Kidder, Arlene McClure, Cathy Nommsen and NEW Board member Christine Neles.
Also serving in other jobs are: Marie Baranzini as Sunshine and Ellen Durrer as Notification Secretary. Cathy Nommsen will be working on the Scrap Book and Annette Grossi & Megan Herman on the Newsletter.
Again, thank you Mary for your service to our board; and to all those on the board & support jobs. Many hands make light work and we have many of those hands willing to offer their help.
